Digital Press and UV on Steroids: JKB Print Bets on Fujifilm, Roland DG Speeds Up Wide-Format Printing
This week, the printing industry shows two faces of investment in productivity: Polish online printshop JKB Print is expanding its digital capacity with a new Fujifilm machine, while Roland DG is launching a series of UV printer-cutters set to double productivity in the visual advertising segment. We take a look at what these moves mean for print shops and signage companies looking for a competitive edge.
01 · Digital Printing
JKB Print Doubles Capacity with Fujifilm Revoria Press PC1120
JKB Print, an online printshop operating since 2013 that handles orders exclusively online, can run up to 300 jobs simultaneously – largely books, catalogs, calendars, and promotional materials, which make up a significant share of its revenue [1]. To keep pace with order volume, the company invested in the Fujifilm Revoria Press PC1120 digital sheet-fed press, controlled by Revoria Flow software responsible for overseeing the production process and color consistency [1].
The device prints in CMYK, but also has special toners at its disposal – fluorescent pink, white, and clear varnish (with silver planned next) – enabling it to handle premium jobs such as wedding catalogs or effects mimicking selective spot varnishing [1]. The machine handles substrates from 50 to 400 g/m², and according to the company, the investment has doubled its full-color production capacity [1]. JKB Print also plans to implement the Fujifilm XMF Workflow system, which is expected to further streamline the management of a large number of varied orders [1].
This is a good example of how automation and software integration with the machine fleet allow online printshops to scale their business without a proportional increase in costs – a topic sure to interest print shop owners considering a similar move.
02 · UV Wide-Format Printing
Roland DG TrueVis MG2: Twice as Fast, with a Wider Color Gamut
From a completely different angle, but equally driven by the spirit of productivity, comes Roland DG's launch. The company has begun selling its new TrueVis MG2 series of UV printer-cutters, available in two variants – the MG2-640 and MG2-300 [2]. The manufacturer states that the new devices deliver roughly twice the productivity of the previous MG series, thanks to a new print head combined with wave control technology [2].
The MG2 series allows simultaneous printing of up to five layers in a single pass – CMYK, white, and gloss varnish in various combinations – while optional orange and red inks extend Pantone color coverage [2]. This opens the door to more demanding, multi-layer projects: window graphics, illuminated displays, labels, packaging, and promotional materials [2].
The devices integrate with print-and-cut systems, and advanced automatic media take-up functions make unattended operation easier, for example during overnight production shifts. For advertising print shops and manufacturers of LED and signage systems, this is a signal that modernizing the machine fleet in the UV segment can genuinely translate into higher margins on jobs, not just faster printing of the same product portfolio.
Summary
Summary
Both cases – a digital press at an online printshop and a new generation of UV printer-cutters – point in the same direction: the printing and visual advertising industry is investing in productivity, automation, and a broader palette of color capabilities to meet increasingly diverse customer needs.
